Walking around Downtown Dubai is the cheapest way to get to the Burj Khalifa. If it's not too hot and you have time to spare, I recommend taking a walk to the skyscraper because, in addition to being free and not spending a dirham, you will also enjoy the tour contemplating the desert landscape and the fountains surrounding the complex.

However, if you need to move from one place to another in the city to get quickly to the observatory because you are limited in time, my advice is to take the Dubai Metro whose single ticket costs from 0.80 € depending on the distance of the destination. And if it suits you better to take the bus, you can ride with a ticket that costs from 0.50 € although like the subway the cost varies depending on the distance of the trip.
