Mob Museum in Las Vegas: tickets, price, hours...

The Mob Museum opened on February 14, 2012, the 83rd anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. It is designed as an interactive and visual trail that traces the history of organized crime in the United States and the countermovements of police and FBI.

It is located in the old post office and is undoubtedly one of the most interesting attractions if you are planning what to see and do in Las Vegas. Nevada's most populous city is intimately tied to underworld happenings. If it were not for an intuition of mobster Bugsy Siegel, today this area would still be a desert.

The recommended option

How to get to The Mob Museum of Las Vegas by public transportation

The cultural institution is located in the business district and historic center of the city. With public transportation, the most recommended option depends on the area of departure. These are the best options from two neuralgic points of the city:

  • The Strip, the street that concentrates the best casinos in Las Vegas. If you are staying here, you can take The Deuce bus. Get on at the NB Las Vegas at the Paris stop (in front of the casino of the same name) and get off at EB Stewart after 4th. The museum is less than a five-minute walk away. The Deuce operates 24 hours a day.
  • McCarran International Airport. Here you have two options. The first is the 109 bus from the Terminal 1 arrivals exit. You will get off at WB Clark after 4th and walk a few minutes along 3rd Street. The alternative is the CX bus. It departs from the same location, but in this case you will have to leave the bus at NB 4th after Stewart. The museum is about a three minute walk away.

A highly recommended alternative is the Las Vegas sightseeing bus. It has comfortable seats and two floors: ideal for enjoying the skyline. It hits all the landmarks of Sin City, from the Arts District to the Bellagio, obviously including The Mob. A day pass usually costs between 40 € and 50 €. Two or three day passes are also available.

How to get to The Mob by car

Many tourists rent a car to move freely around the city or to explore the surrounding desert. If this is your case, just enter the address of the museum in the navigator: 300 Stewart Avenue. A good parking option is the nearby Main Street Station Casino Parking.

The first 30 minutes are free while after that an hourly rate will be applied. On the official website you can find all the daily, weekly and monthly rates.

Without a doubt, the added value of the cultural institution is its interactive experiences. You will find them on the second floor, just after the entrance. Here are the options to choose from:

  • Crime Lab, for those who have always dreamed of experiencing a C.S.I. style investigation. You can perform DNA and fingerprint analysis every day from 10:00 to 21:00. Each session lasts half an hour and participants must be at least 11 years old.
  • Firearm Training Simulator, a firearms training simulator that emphasizes the training of police officers. It is open from 12:00 to 19:00 and there is a session every 15 minutes. Participants must be at least 13 years old and children ages 13 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For more activities of this type, I recommend you read the post about the best shooting range experiences in Las Vegas.
  • Distillery tour with whiskey tasting, the best way to deepen your knowledge about the preparation of spirits and the wiles of organized crime. The bar is also a landmark: it recreates the atmosphere of the 1920s and its drinks are a nod to the Prohibition era.

The museum is open all week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. There are generally no closing days, although on some dates the hours may be reduced.

For example, if you visit Las Vegas on Christmas or other holidays, you will only be able to visit from 10:00 to 18:00.

In the basement of the building is The speakeasy, a bar that winks back to the days of Prohibition and speakeasies. Admission is included in the ticket price - drinks are separate - but you'll have to recite the password. Open Monday to Wednesday from 12:00 to 22:00 and Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 24:00.

Want to go home with an original souvenir? Then you must stop at the tiedan of the museum. Its offer goes far beyond the simple T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats that you can find in other tourist stores. The list below lists the most curious souvenirs:

  • Newspaper reprints.
  • You can choose from three headlines that recall historical events and characters: the end of Prohibition, Bonnie & Clyde and the famous gangster John Dillinger
  • Las Vegas sign ornament, a hand-painted glass globe that reproduces a cityscape
.- The ideal choice if you visit Las Vegas at Christmas and want to decorate the tree with something original
  • The Crime Boss coloring book, a coloring book for adults
.- Relax by coloring the vignettes of America's most famous criminals
  • Corn whiskey distilled in the basement of the museum. You can choose from three sizes - 50, 375 and 750 ml - and as many varieties: plain, cinnamon or ginger flavored
  • Shot Glasses, six shot glasses with mug shots of America's most famous criminals: Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, Pretty Boy Floyd, John Dillinger and Machine Gun Kelly

The store is located near the entrance and is much appreciated by visitors. The souvenirs are not limited to classic outlaws such as Al Capone, but cover more recent mob families.

Is it advisable to go to The Mob Museum with children?

The museum makes no apology for organized crime and the more crude scenes - for example, the St. Valentine's Day massacre - can be skipped. So, it's up to you and your children's sensibility. If you are not convinced and are looking for an alternative destination, I recommend reading the post on 10 things to do in Las Vegas with kids.
