Step by Step

Immerse yourself in a town full of charm and literary history on this excursion to Alcalá de Henares. Together with a professional guide, you will walk through the streets of this location northeast of Madrid and learn about a past closely linked to the figure of Miguel de Cervantes, the greatest exponent of literature and author of "Don Quixote".

The excursion, which lasts approximately one and a half to two hours, includes transport to and from Madrid, which is 40 minutes away. As well as strolling through its streets, you will have the opportunity to visit the interior of two of the most emblematic buildings in this town:

  • The Colegio de San Ildefonso: founded in 1499, it was for four centuries one of the most important universities in Spain. Nowadays, it is the rectorate of this university and has a high architectural value, being a jewel of the Spanish Renaissance. One of the most iconic rooms is the paraninfo, the assembly hall where the Cervantes Literature Prizes are awarded.
  • Museo Casa Natal de Cervantes: the current building was reconstructed imitating the canons and styles of the traditional Castilian-Toledan house and is attributed to the house where the writer Miguel de Cervantes was born.

Alcalá de Henares is a city to the northeast of Madrid and is known for the University of Alcalá, as well as for its historic district and some of its most curious buildings, such asthe paraninfo. Its city centre has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site and a World Heritage Site.

The tour was much more enjoyable and informative than I expected. While I was expecting a different tour, I have to admit that I found it quite interesting. Recommended.
