Step by Step

This tour lasts approximately 8 hours and includes both the bus transfer from Madrid and an expert guide. This is plenty of time to explore Toledo, city of three cultures - Christian, Moorish and Jewish - and one of the best preserved medieval destinations in the country. It stands on a promontory and is surrounded by defensive walls dating back to the Muslim era.

The route usually starts in a central location, such as the Plaza de Zocodover. Its name derives from the Arabic "sūq ad-dawābb", which means "market of beasts of burden". Nowadays it is the liveliest area of the city and is home to legendary bars such as El Trébol and Ludeña.

Another unmissable monument is the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. Its interior is predominantly white and its elegant octagonal pillars reveal its Jewish origin. It is located in the old Jewish quarter, a district that is delimited by the San Martín Bridge, the Daycán Tower and the Cambrón Gate.

The itinerary also includes other temples in the city: the Primate Cathedral and the Church of Santo Tomé. The former is a Gothic construction built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Inside, the Mozarabic Chapel stands out, which was used to celebrate Mozarabic masses. As for the Church of Santo Tomé, it is best known for "The Burial of the Lord of Orgaz", a splendid oil painting on canvas by El Greco.

A visit to Toledo cannot do without the Alcázar, the fortress that dominates the old town. Already in Roman times there was a bastion which was later transformed by the Visigoths and Muslims. Today it houses the Army Museum. At the end of the visit, the bus will take you back to Madrid.

A wonderful, if somewhat exhausting, excursion.

One of the longest and most complete excursions I have ever done. Despite ending the day very exhausted, I have to admit that it was worth it. I take with me a precious memory of that day.
