Music is important to the Mallorcans and they let everyone who visits them know it. Therefore, a few years ago the City Council of Palma decided to take advantage of the great work of architecture, the Bellver Castle and give it an even more cultural use if possible.

The castle can be visited in one of the many tours of the city but also offers the possibility to go out of the conventional and can attend various activities, mainly concerts, set in the century of the construction of the castle, ie the fourteenth century.

Prices tend to vary, but are usually between 20 and 25 euros, and can sometimes reach up to 40 euros.

You have all the available activities of the castle on its official website.

History can be boring, so to make it more enjoyable for all visitors, every year Mallorca recreates the battle between Moors and Christians that took place on the island.

As a culmination of the Rei en Jaume festivities, the people relive this episode of history that meant the end of Muslim rule in the Balearic Islands. The locals celebrate a big day in Santa Ponça, Calviá.

Mallorcans and visitors have the opportunity to know how it was in those times the island, their customs, clothes, gastronomy. We can even go dressed in the costumes of that time and participate in the battle. The battle begins with the landing in Port de Soller, crosses the village and ends in the central square with the victory of the Christians.

There are usually different types of performances by various artists from the area as well as foreign guests.

After the great reception in past seasons, they have now added the Nit Canalla to their program. A workshop aimed exclusively at young people between the ages of 15 and 25 years.

This workshop consists of the creation of a show with the help of several professionals who are dedicated to the world of cinema and is presented to the public the next day. Although some of the activities that can be performed are free, others have an entrance fee that usually ranges from 5 to 35 euros. In this traditional festival the Mallorcans dress in their traditional costumes and decorate the streets with motifs of the end of the harvest. You can find different activities such as the correfoc, different exhibitions and parades of floats decorated with grape motifs, outdoor dinners and wine tastings. But there are also activities that are less common in festivals, such as the traditional treading of the grapes or the popular battle of throwing these fruits.

Also, this celebration is accompanied by other activities such as dancing and traditional music, parades, craft stalls and local products and parade through the streets of the nearby villages the giants and bigheaded so typical of the region.

Mallorca also has charming places for those who want to explore the natural environment of the island. For this reason, there are many organized excursions that can be hired from Palma.

From villages that seem to be taken out of advertisements, as is the case of Banyalbufar, a totally green place, although it is now beginning to suffer from real estate exploitation. However, it allows us to know and get lost in this wonderful natural place. From a small sheltered cove of fine stones that has a beautiful natural waterfall, to reach the Punta de Sa Galera a gravel cove where the sea waves do not reach.

Or visit Llucalcari, a beautiful village hidden among the vegetation of Tramuntana, making it look like a hidden place. Through it we can access Es Canyaret, a cove of stones located in a ravine that has its own natural waterfall of fresh water, but the great discovery of this cove are its mud pools created naturally by the various sources of fresh water that run through the ravine. What better way to enjoy some natural mud baths.

The weather in Mallorca in September

Like any coastal city, the humidity in Mallorca, high in these summer months, makes the sensation of heat even greater. However, after a summer month of August on the island, September is giving way to cooler days with an average temperature of 23-24ºC. Maximum temperatures rarely exceed 30ºC.

So we are talking about ideal dates to practice all kinds of outdoor activities. However, nothing assures total success with good days without any rain. Although the days with rainfall are less than in the months of October or November, especially the second half of September can bring rain to the archipelago. There will be days when you will have to change your beach plans for indoor ones.

In the evenings it will be necessary to wrap up a littlewarmer. Keep in mind that temperatures can drop to 15ºC, so if you are going to have a drink on a terrace or walk along the promenade of any Mallorcan city, it is advisable to be prepared.

What to bring in your suitcase

As a good beach destination, all swimwear will be necessary on your trip to Majorca in September, however, you cannot leave a long-sleeved jacket at home either. Here are the necessary items you should pack in your suitcase to have a perfect trip:

  • Swimwear and towel for the beach
  • Shorts or cool clothes, the humidity in Mallorca is high so you will appreciate having light colored clothes to spend the day on tours or excursions
  • Comfortable walking shoes, keep in mind that you will be hiking or walking in some small coves where the cobblestones are difficult if you wear flip flops
  • Long sleeve jacket, in the evenings it starts to get cooler
  • Raincoat, in September it starts to rain some days, about 5 on average, so it is a great idea to have a raincoat handy so that nothing prevents you from enjoying the island.
