March is an ideal time to enjoy the charms of the island of Mallorca to the fullest. Spring is approaching, the daylight hours begin to lengthen and the temperature is getting warmer. At this time there are still not many tourists, and that is always appreciated to enjoy everything there is to see and do in Mallorca.

The agenda of events on the island is full of alternatives in this period, with options for all ages and tastes. Whether you are a nature lover or prefer events with lots of people, you are sure to find a plan that connects with you.

1. Escape to the Drach Caves and discover them with hardly any people

Rarely will you have the opportunity to visit a tourist place without every corner being crowded with people. Don't you hate that in all your summer photos there are people in the background?

The island of Mallorca has beautiful places that are a must to visit. But one of the best excursions to do in Mallorca is the one that takes you to the Drach Caves. Located in the village of Porto Cristo, it is an idyllic place where you will also find a large subway lake that can be crossed by boat.

Thanks to its average temperature between 17 and 20 degrees inside, you can enjoy these beautiful caves at any time of the year, but taking advantage of your March getaway to Mallorca to explore them is a great idea since it is not high tourist season on the island and you will be able to enjoy the tour with more tranquility.

Coming to enjoy the beauty of the Bay of Palma is always a spectacle. But it is even more so if we find it full of sailing boats. It is a good time to take a boat trip around Mallorca.

During the first weeks of March, the Mallorcan coast fills up with crews to compete in the Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta. This event is a worldwide reference that is used as training for the Princesa Sofia Mallorca, which takes place in these same waters. The aspirants give their all to achieve the best results during the three days of the event.

If you like adventure, make a note on your list of plans in Mallorca to do one of the quad tours around the island. Thanks to these guided routes mostly through the Majorcan mountain range you can explore paths and roads with a unique mountain landscape with the Balearic Sea in the background.

Your guide will give you the indications to know how to drive the quad and you will have all the safety equipment at your disposal. Imagine discovering the Serra de Tramuntana on one of these vehicles. If you have never been on one I recommend you to try the experience taking advantage of the beautiful natural landscapes of the island of Mallorca.

Celebrate World Nature Day

All environment lovers are invited to celebrate a day of awareness on World Nature Day, March 3rd. In Lloret de Vistalegre, which is located in the most central point of the island, several activities are organized every year to promote the care of the planet. In a pleasant walk they work to clean a very important natural space in the area such as Sa Comuna.

If you are a lover of handicrafts you have an unavoidable appointment in Marratxí. Since mid-March, potters from Marratxi and from all over the world, especially from the island of Mallorca, come here. This fair is considered as a reference within the sector.

You will not only be able to admire these precious handmade pieces. You can also take a piece in your suitcase as a souvenir or even make it yourself, since during the week of the fair there are different activities such as workshops and conferences.

Another great plan is to book a tour of the traditional markets, where you will visit the Alcudia market, where you will find a great variety of handicrafts, textiles and food products; the Inca market, internationally famous for its high quality leather and footwear products; or the Sineu market, known for its neighborhood collaboration and for having products of all kinds.

5. Experience the sport in Escorca with the Natursport Fair

For sports enthusiasts, the last weekend of March the municipality of Escorca offers the Natursport Fair, a series of outdoor activities, suitable for all levels.

Among the most popular are mountain biking, climbing and trekking. But there are not only activities for adults. The little ones of the house are invited with exclusive activities for them such as a climbing wall and the Ultrakids, a race that they will enjoy to the maximum.

And if you like cycling, why don't you sign up for an electric bike tour around Mallorca? You will ride for 3 hours around the main monuments of Palma de Mallorca. No less than 27 km accompanied by a tour guide who will explain the history and secrets of the capital.

The place where all the registered cars meet is located in Puerto Portals, the most luxurious port of the island.

And if your thing is the engine and speed, I recommend you to book a Formula 1 car tour in which you will put your adrenaline to the top while you drive through some of the wonderful places that the island offers, such as Valldemossa, Sóller, the port of Andratx, the coast of Calviá, the Calas de Estellenc, Malgrats or the viewpoint of Sa Foradada.

Just a few weeks before spring arrives, the almond trees are in bloom in Majorca, tinging the landscape with a captivating white with pinkish touches. A visit if you are on the island is a must.

Little by little you notice how the smell of spring begins to make itself felt. Strolling through these places is a luxury that is gaining more and more followers. So much so that in Germany they have created specific trips to Mallorca to see the almond trees in bloom.

To enjoy this marvel you can go to the villages of Lloseta, Marrachí or Selva, in the region of Raiguer; in the villages of Manacor and Son Servera, in the region of Levante Mallorquín; or book an excursion to Sóller and Valldemosa.

The warm weather, but not too hot, the spring light and the nature in full bloom make this time of the year perfect to book a horseback riding tour in Mallorca. A great plan for lovers of these beautiful animals.

The activity takes place in small groups in the valleys of Randa, in the south of the island, where you can ride through vineyards, monasteries, 13th century buildings and beautiful natural landscapes.

Whether you are an expert rider or if it is your first contact with the horse, this activity is for you, as you will receive a theoretical and practical class and then you will take the reins to put into practice everything you have learned. Of course, you must have an acceptable level of fitness to be able to do this wonderful excursion.

9. The most famous Irish party is also celebrated in Mallorca

Who has not heard of St. Patrick's Day? This day is celebrated all over the world in memory of the patron saint of the island of Ireland. Mallorca is dyed green and is surrounded by shows, music and beer, lots of beer.

The neuralgic point of the celebration is located in Santa Ponça, in Calvià. The municipality takes out its heavy artillery to imitate the purest Irish style. Music and beer are two of the main protagonists, with live performances in each of the Irish bars of the town.

10. An Agricultural Fair with tradition in Son Ferriol

For more than 20 years, a massive agricultural fair has been held in Son Ferriol, on the outskirts of Palma, at the end of March. In this quiet town there are great professionals of the sector and also, of course, many curious people who want to learn about the native species of livestock, such as the elegant Mallorcan horses or the Mallorcan black pigs.

Throughout the day there are exhibitions of birds of prey and horse dressage competitions. A whole display of elegance shown by the equines with every movement.

In addition to the animals, the fair has several exhibitions, a hundred agricultural machines and work tools. And as in any good fair, we can not forget to try the typical food of the place in one of its stalls, or get some of the artisan products.

11. Day of the Balearic Islands, the most representative holiday of the island

Every year on March 1, the Balearic Islands dress up in their best clothes to celebrate the most important day of the community. On that day the commemoration of the signing of the Statute of Autonomy that took place in 1983 is celebrated.

Most of the activities that take place during these days are located in Palma de Mallorca. In the Parc de Sa Feixina you will have the opportunity to taste the best typical local food, which is located along numerous stalls. Accompanied by street animation throughout the city, Mallorcans leave their homes in a celebratory mood.

It is a good time to visit the main buildings of the city. These days they open their doors to the public to share a glimpse of their valuable heritage with anyone who wants to come along.

Taste the Mallorcan food

And they say that you can't get to know a city without tasting the delicacies offered by its gastronomy. The ensaimada is the most typical sweet that continues to triumph. Another classic is the sobrasada. But we have many more to choose from such as the traditional arròs brut or the coca de Trampó, which would be a base similar to pizza with a bed of vegetables.

The best way to try a bit of everything is to take a gastronomic tour around Mallorca to visit the places with the best typical food of the island or book an olive oil and wine tour around the island, where you will taste these two Mediterranean products.

12. Have fun in the attractions of the Fira del Ram

At this time of the year, from the end of February until April, Mallorcans gather at the Son Fusteret industrial estate to enjoy one of the most eagerly awaited events. This is the Fira del Ram, a fair where more than 170 attractions are installed.

Do you dare to ride on the giant Ferris wheel or on one of the roller coasters? Water rides, terror corridors and for the bravest there are those that turn upside down while spinning at full speed.

Locals and tourists come to this site to enjoy a spectacle of lights and sound. The festive atmosphere is joined by the smell of the characteristic sweet of the fairs, a bit of cotton candy for the children while the adults get a dozen churros.

The weather during the month of March in Mallorca

When the month of March arrives, winter is coming to an end and the spring temperature begins to show itself. In Mallorca there is hardly any trace of cold during the day. Daytime temperatures hover between 15 and 18ºC on average. A pleasant temperature that allows us to shed our wool sweaters and dust off our between-season clothes from the closet.

But don't be fooled, despite the sun and the clear skies, at night the temperature continues to drop to an average of 8-9ºC. So remember to have some warm clothes on hand just in case.

The beaches of Mallorca in March

We are used to associate beach tourism with the hottest months of the year. This is a mistake, especially if we take into account that summer is when most people come to look for this type of destinations.

Mallorca has a mild climate that allows us to enjoy the beach during the spring and autumn months. The sun is not yet strong, but that does not prevent us from lying on the beach or taking a swim in the middle of the day.

If you are looking for a place where, in addition to sightseeing, you can enjoy fun plans, Mallorca is the perfect candidate. Prices are more affordable than the rest of the year during the low season and the overcrowding has not yet arrived. Take the opportunity to disconnect in the Island of Calm.
