In 2021 the Moco museum opened its doors and joined the long list of the best museums in Barcelona. This museum of modern and contemporary art, hence its acronym, belongs to Kim and Lionel Logchies, a Dutch couple of collectors who already opened a branch of Moco in Amsterdam. The museum is housed in a former 18th century Gothic palace and houses all kinds of 20th and 21st century works. A very interesting mix of history and modernity.

Its collection includes works by such renowned artists as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy and Salvador Dalí. If you are a lover of modern art is a must visit and one of the best plans to do in Barcelona. And for that in this post I share with you everything you need to know to get your tickets and all the information you need to know the Moco Museum in Barcelona as it deserves.

The Moco museum is located at 25 Montcada street, in the center of Barcelona. If you've taken a tour of the Gothic Quarter you've almost certainly seen its facade.

For reference, it is on the same street as the Picasso museum and less than 10 minutes walk from points of interest such as the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar or the cathedral of Barcelona.

Using the best ways to get around Barcelona you can reach the Moco in the following ways:

  • By metro: the nearest stop is Jaume I, a ten minute walk to the museum.
  • By bus: lines V15 and H16 stop at Plaça de Catalunya. From this point it is just over 10 minutes on foot.
  • If you are in the center it is always best to go on foot as it is close to some of the city's nerve centers such as Las Ramblas or Plaza Cataluña.
  • By car it is difficult as there is not much parking nearby. In the vicinity of the train station of France there are paid parking lots and from there the museum is less than 10 minutes walk.

Is it advisable to go to the Moco museum in Barcelona with children?

Of course. In fact the museum is very oriented to young people, especially teenagers.

It is a place very focused on social networks and young people often come to share the experience on networks like instagram. It is an important bulk of its audience.

As for the little ones, the museum is very visual and easy to see so for them the visit is usually very enjoyable. In this sense, it could be one of the best activities to do with children in Barcelona.

Prices also help as children under 9 years do not pay admission and between 10 and 17 years always has a discount.

The collection of the Moco museum is not very extensive, but it has works of great value and very structured.

In total there are about 40 pieces divided into five blocks plus temporary exhibitions. The highlights that you can see in the Moco museum in Barcelona are:

  • In the block of Moco Master - Modern we find works of pioneering and very recognized authors such as Jean-Michel Basquiat or Damien Hirst.
  • Another block is the Moco Master - Contemporary. Here are the creations of the most modern and contemporary authors such as Kaws, David LaChapelle or Yago Hortal from Barcelona
  • The anonymous artist Bansky has his own space. This space dedicated to the artist has, in addition to some works, a recreation of his studio and explanatory areas of some of his most famous works such as the Girl with a Balloon.
  • There is another space dedicated to immersive art. These are digital works in large spaces in which the viewer is immersed in the work itself. The Diamond Matrix is the most famous of these works and the most popular in the networks.
  • The last space of the museum is dedicated to temporary exhibitions so depending on the dates you visit you can find different exhibitions. In this space there have been exhibitions about NFT or works by the artist Kaws.

They have their own merchandising that includes a line of clothing with their own slogan "In art we Trust" and a multitude of accessories such as cell phone cases, backpacks, notebooks etc.. They also sell postcards and posters of the museum's works as well as books about art.
