The nature in La Gomera is amazing and its beaches, a paradise of turquoise waters, black sand and beautiful palm groves. This, together with its mild and pleasant climate all year round, makes it an ideal destination to lie in the sun and disconnect from the world, a traveler's dream!

If you have already explored the interior of the island hiking in La Gomera, on the coast you will find beaches of all kinds (virgin, family, quiet...) and for all tastes, so grab your swimsuit and towel to visit the best beaches of La Gomera!

1. Playa del Inglés, a dreamlike sunset

Surprising because it is not a very long beach, although there is no doubt that it is one of the most beautiful because of the contrast between the black volcanic sand, the blue sea and the imposing cliffs that give it a rustic and isolated appearance.

The ocean in this beach is usually calm but there are times that due to the strong waves, you have to take extreme caution when bathing to avoid scares. If the sea allows it you can practice a little snorkeling.

The beach of El Inglés, located in Valle Gran Rey in the southwest of the island, is one of the most famous in La Gomera. The access by car is easy and on foot you only have to take a short walk from the parking in the coastal area.

What to do on the beach

I recommend you to visit the beach of El Inglés in the afternoon and wait until sun set because it is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Canary Islands.

  • How to get there: GM-2 and GM-1 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (50.1 km).
  • Best time to go: In the afternoon, to see the sunset on the way.
  • Services: It is a virgin beach but nearby there are apartments, leisure facilities, restaurants and other services.

2. Avalo beach, the most beautiful palm grove on the island

To the north of San Sebastián de La Gomera (towards Puntallana) is located Ávalo beach, with black sand and surrounded by cliffs and green palm groves (one of the most beautiful in La Gomera), a unique landscape that fascinates for its great beauty!

The waters of the beach of Avalo are calm and clean, but don't forget to wear booties because there are areas of gravel and gravel that could get stuck in your feet.

This beach has the permission of the City Council for camping. Being isolated it does not offer services but it is perfect if you want to spend a day away from the world, going to bed with the sound of the waves and waking up with a beautiful sunrise. It's magical!

Another reason to visit this place is that near this site is located a small chapel that keeps the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of the island.

  • How to get there: by CV-2 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (4,3 km)
  • Best time to go: Early in the morning to see the sunrise and the surrounding landscapes.
  • Services: it is a virgin beach so there are no services available.

3. Alojera beach, in a unique landscape between cliffs

In the east of the island in the town of Vallehermoso, this is one of the most beautiful and extensive volcanic sand beaches of La Gomera, so it is usually frequented by many people. It is accessible on foot and by car.

Alojera beach is located in a rustic environment somewhat isolated surrounded by cliffs that expand to the Atlantic giving rise to an amazing landscape. It is a very pleasant place to spend a day outdoors but the waves here are moderate, so when it comes to cool off in the sea should take precautions.

What to do on the beach

If after a while you feel like going for a walk in the surroundings, taking the car you will arrive in just a few minutes to the Casa de la Miel de Palma, a space where you will learn the process of making guarapo (a very typical ingredient of the gastronomy of Gomera and used in many restaurants on the island) from the time it is obtained from the plant until it is packaged.

And to recover energy, nothing better than eating a good plate of escaldón de gofio at Bodegón Restaurante Agana, one of the best restaurants to eat in La Gomera.

  • How to get there: by GM-2 and GM-1 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (47,8 km)
  • Best time to go: In the morning to combine a day at the beach with a visit to the Casa de la Miel de Palma.
  • Services: Showers, restaurants and promenade.

4. La Caleta beach, ideal for relaxing with the family

In the north of the island, a few minutes away from the Hermigua Valley is located La Caleta Beach. A beautiful and quiet black sand beach overlooking the coastline and the Teide volcano.

It is a perfect place to disconnect from the routine, where the only thing you will hear is the murmur of the waves. The relaxation is total! La Caleta beach is a great place to go with children and enjoy nature.

What to do on the beach

It also has a beach bar where you can have a drink, which is great if you go there with your family and has other services such as parking, toilets and showers.

  • How to get there: by GM-1 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (25 km)
  • Best time to go: In the morning to make the most of the day.
  • Services: kiosk-bar, parking, toilets and showers.

5. Playa de Vueltas, for those who want a little ambience

If after so many isolated and unspoiled beaches you are looking for a bit of action on the island, Vueltas beach is usually quite crowded and is a semi-urban beach.

You will find it in Valle Gran Rey and you will like it for its calm waters, its black sand and its marine charm. The fishermen's boats parked on the sand give a unique and special touch to the landscape. Take out your camera because you will want to take lots of pictures!

As it is protected from the currents, its waves are gentle, making it ideal for carefree swimming. In addition, it has several services (showers, restaurants, parking) which makes it a very cool beach to enjoy with friends or children all day long. You won't want to leave.

What to do on the beach

At Vueltas beach you can sit on the sand to enjoy the atmosphere, sunbathe, take a swim or go out for a drink at one of the nearby restaurants.

  • How to get there: by GM-2 and GM-1 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (50 km)
  • Best time to go: All day.
  • Services: restaurants, showers, parking, stores, promenade.

6. La Negra beach, for those looking for intimacy

If you are looking for a secluded place in La Gomera where you can escape to enjoy a day at the beach like any other Gomeran, I recommend you to visit La Negra beach, on the south coast of the island.

It is an isolated and unspoiled beach where you will find enough privacy as not many people usually go there. To access you have to do it through the beach of La Rajita or from Arguayoda by a path.

There you will not find services, as it is a virgin beach. However, on the nearby beach of La Rajita there is a beach bar where you can cool off on hot days.

What to do on the beach

A good place to enjoy a refreshing swim in the ocean waters, snorkeling and sunbathing on the black sand until it sets. To tell the truth, the sunsets from this beach are fascinating.

  • How to get there: by GM-1 from San Sebastián de La Gomera (39,3 km)
  • Best time to go: All day.
  • Services: Not available as it is a virgin beach.

Any of these beaches will be fascinating for you, but if you are even more in the mood for nature, you can always book a hiking tour in La Gomera:
