It is very common for travelers to take advantage of a trip to Rome to broaden their horizons and visit other cities near the capital. Taking a day trip to Naples from Rome is an example of a plan that everyone likes.

It is a practical, comfortable, efficient, and fun way to make the most of your getaway to Italy and gather as many experiences as possible by exploring other areas of the country in a short time.

What will you see on the day trip?

Booking a day trip to Pompeii and Naples from Rome is an excellent option for visiting both places in comfort, in a private bus, accompanied by an expert guide who will explain everything you need to know about these historic sites:

  • Naples: throughout history, it has belonged to many kingdoms, which is reflected in the city's morphology. Accompanied by a guide, during the tour you will visit places that will show you why it is so captivating to tourists.
  • Pompeii: Visiting Pompeii is a must during any trip to Italy, and combining it with an organized tour to Naples is a unique opportunity to learn about its ruins and history in depth, without having to put a lot of effort into planning the excursion and saving time and money.

What will you see on the two- or three-day excursion?

On the other hand, booking a three-day excursion to Pompeii, Naples, Capri, and Sorrento from Rome will allow you to discover these four wonderful places without having to worry about anything else, because it includes transportation, a guide, accommodation, lunches, and dinner:

  • Sorrento: located on the beautiful Amalfi Coast, Sorrento is a coastal town famous for its delicious panoramic sea views and Piazza Tasso, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in true Italian style. A real treat for the senses.
  • Capri: one of the most beautiful destinations in all of Italy, on this island you can visit the Blue Grotto and enjoy the amazing colors of the cave and the water.

Rome and Naples are about 200 kilometers apart and are very well connected for traveling on your own by car, making it a good option if you like road trips and want to take the opportunity to explore other charming villages along the route that you wouldn't be able to visit by public transport.

If you choose to rent a car to explore Naples, you will enjoy a little more flexibility in your plans as you can adapt the route and timing to your interests, skipping certain stops along the way or staying longer where you want.

Getting to Naples from Rome by car is very easy. Just take the A1 motorway, which is well signposted. The journey on this road takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes and there is a toll of around €15.

The direct flight from Rome to Naples only takes about 50 minutes, but I don't recommend it because you have to add on the time it takes to get to the airport, go through security, wait at the terminal, etc.

Bear in mind that traveling from Rome to Naples by plane will take you more than 3 hours in total, and tickets are very expensive compared to other means of transport, at around €80. It's not worth it!

When is the best time to go to Naples from Rome?

As with the climate in Rome, the best time to visit Naples is in spring and fall, when temperatures are pleasant and the atmosphere is relatively dry.

Another advantage of the climate in Naples during these seasons is that the streets are livelier than in winter but nowhere near as crowded as in summer, so you can enjoy the most important tourist attractions in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Although summer is the holiday season par excellence, I don't recommend going to Naples in the summer as the climate in the city is quite hot and humid, so you'll feel too sticky and hot to go from one place to another sightseeing. Plus, everything is crowded with tourists!

Although you can do the excursion on your own, in my opinion, organized excursions are the best way to go to Naples from Rome.

  • They are very convenient! You won't have to worry about any aspect of planning the trip, just buying the tickets and having a good time.
  • With an organized tour, you'll avoid any last-minute setbacks that might arise if you go on your own.
  • You'll be sure to make the most of your time on the tour.
  • You'll be accompanied by an expert guide who will tell you lots of anecdotes and stories that you would otherwise miss.
  • And if you're traveling alone or as a couple, you'll be accompanied by a group, so the tour will be more fun.
  • You can relax on the way back to Rome, without having to worry about public transportation schedules.

Nothing but advantages!
