This musical building dedicated to opera and Italian theatre was inaugurated in 1792 and suffered two fires. In 1844, collaboration with Giuseppe Verdi began in the theatre. His works such as Attila, Rigoletto, La Traviata and Simon Bocanegra were premiered here. Artists such as Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti also performed their musical pieces here.

Inside you will find luxurious red velvet armchairs, mirrors and chandeliers, and walls and ceilings decorated in classical baroque style. One of the most impressive corners is the Royal Box, which is full of mirrors and offers a privileged view of the stage and the rest of the boxes.

The permanent exhibition of Maria Callas is also present in the theatre and is one of its highlights. Of Greek descent, Callas was considered the most eminent soprano of the 20th century, and her works such as La Divina, Tristan and Isolde and Walkiria were performed here.

    Excellent alternative in Venice to do something out of the ordinary! In itself is a very quiet city so finding this kind of activities is perfect. If you want to have an even better time, you can find out when there is a rehearsal or concert.
