This specialised tour for children will explore the French Quarter of New Orleans. You and your family will have the opportunity to wander the streets of the city's oldest neighbourhood, accompanied by a teacher and expert guide. For about an hour and a half you will learn about the history of New Orleans and this particular neighbourhood, which dates back to 1718 .

You will also pass by the Mississippi River and visit icons of the city, such as the statue of Andrew Jackson, Jackson Square and St Louis Cathedral. You will learn about the role of the church and religion in the colonial era and the conditions in which the enslaved population of the time lived.

Step by Step

On this 90-minute tour of the French Quarter of New Orleans, you and your children can walk through the streets of the city's first settlement, established in 1718. Accompanied by an expert guide, children will learn about the history of the city, its French origins and how it passed into the hands of the Americans.

They will pass by some places of great interest such as:

  • The statue of Andrew Jackson, the seventh US president, who, in 1815, won the Battle of New Orleans against British troops as part of the Anglo-American War.
  • Jackson Square Park, a green place where children can enjoy the view and the pleasant walk in this huge urban park.
  • St. Louis Cathedral, built as a church in 1718 in honour of Louis IX of France, nicknamed the Saint. The original church was enlarged in 1789 and elevated to cathedral status in 1793 .

Throughout the tour, children will also learn about the history and influence of the church during the colonial period and the role the church played in relation to the African-American slave population of the time .

This family-friendly activity is ideal for children and adults to share and learn together. Throughout the tour, they will enjoy the walks and lush greenery of New Orleans, as well as the views of the Mississippi River and the jokes and banter of the local guide, who will ensure that the activity is fun and enjoyable for both children and adults .
