Step by Step
The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Barcelona manages and exhibits a unique collection that traces the history and future of cannabis, from its industrial uses to its medicinal, cultural and spiritual role. Located in the iconic Palau Mornau, a modernist building listed as a national monument, the museum offers a surprising and educational cultural experience.
Founded by Ben Dronkers, a pioneer in the preservation and dissemination of cannabis heritage, the museum houses historical objects, artwork, instruments and documents that illustrate how cannabis has been a part of humanity for centuries. Highlights include 17th century paintings and prints by artists such as David Teniers, Cornelis Decker and Herman Saftleven, showing the everyday use of hemp in Europe.
The tour also includes old hemp processing tools, as well as a medicinal section that preserves one of the largest collections of medicinal cannabis bottles in the world, dating back to the 19th century. This area reveals how cannabis was a common component in pharmaceutical treatments of the past.
During your visit, you can explore temporary exhibits, observe hemp plants growing inside the museum and participate in interactive experiences such as the themed photo booth. Finally, in the museum shop, you will find organic hemp products that reflect the institution's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
