Natural hot springs abound in the land of fire and ice, with the Blue Lagoon being the jewel in the crown. Locals believe that this is one of the best things to see and do in Reykjavik, especially in the winter season when the cold is hostile.

There are many ways to visit the Blue Lagoon and admire the scenery that can be seen in its surroundings. That's why I will show you some of my favorite tours to get to know the most famous hot springs in Iceland.

This fun tour will depart from Reykjavik and is bound for the Blue Lagoon. It is a bus experience where you will arrive at the lagoon only to enjoy the facilities of the place at your leisure. This tour lasts approximately four hours.

You have the option of requesting pick up at your hotel, or at a point close to it, since many hotels do not allow buses to reach their facilities. When you arrive at the lagoon you will notice that there are pools for men and others for women, you will also see beautiful places for incredible photographs such as small waterfalls and other similar landscapes.

  • Price: This excursion has an approximate price of 139 euros per person. Children from 2 to 12 years old pay nothing to enter the excursion.
  • Duration: It lasts approximately 4 hours from the moment you arrive at the Blue Lagoon.
  • Means of transportation: The complete transfer is by bus both there and back.
  • Advantages of this excursion: Children can enjoy the excursion free of charge. The transfer is from Reykjavik in a comfortable bus with all amenities. Included is a clay mask at the Blue Lagoon and of course, entrance to the site. A drink and a towel are also included.
  • Disadvantages of this excursion: Children under 2 years old cannot go on the excursion. Pets are not allowed and this is not a tour that is wheelchair friendly.

2. Golden Circle Tour and entrance to the Blue Lagoon

This seven and a half hour tour takes you to see the Golden Circle, a must-see set of natural landscapes very close to Reykjavik. In addition, if you select the option, it takes you to the Blue Lagoon where you can stay about three hours enjoying the comforting thermal bath.

It is a tour that is available in different languages, including Spanish. It has a tour guide who will show you different interesting details of each place you visit. In addition to the Blue Lagoon, you can see the Gullfoss waterfall, Thingvellir Park and other beauties of this area of Iceland.

  • Duration: This tour lasts approximately seven and a half hours.
  • Means of transportation: The excursion is done in a bus with all the comforts. To get to the meeting point, you must travel on your own using public transportation or a private vehicle.
  • Advantages of this excursion: Wifi is included on board the bus in which you make the tour, also chargers are included in each seat of the bus. A tour guide is included who will teach you everything you want to know about each place. It is available in approximately ten languages. You will enjoy 3 hours of spa at the Blue Lagoon.
  • Disadvantages of this tour: Food and beverages are not included during the tour. Headphones to listen to the tour are at your own expense. Hotel pick-up from Reykjavik is not included, but may be available at an additional cost.

3. Fagradafsjall volcano and Blue Lagoon hike

Fagradalfsjall volcano is one of the most important volcanoes in Iceland. Hiking it during the winter is one of the spectacles that you can't miss and that you should definitely include among the best tours to discover Iceland's volcanoes from Reykjavik.

This hike is even more special because after hiking through the snow, you will be able to have a comforting thermal bath. During this walk you will also see some mossy lava fields and other natural attractions of Iceland. The end of the walk is the most relaxing of all, and that is the arrival at the Blue Lagoon, one of the best lagoons from Reykjavik.

  • Duration: The whole tour has an approximate duration of 10 hours, to know each of the places on the itinerary.

  • Advantages of this excursion: Entrance to the Blue Lagoon is included with a comfort pass. Also included is a complimentary drink and a tour guide during the whole experience. For the volcano hike, a head lamp is included.
  • Disadvantages of this excursion: Bathing suits are not included, you must bring your own. Food and beverages are also not included, except for the complimentary one.

4. Golden Circle, Kerid Crater and Blue Lagoon Excursion

On this excursion to the Golden Circle and Kerid volcanic crater tour in Reykjavik and of course you will have access to the Blue Lagoon. This is an almost personalized experience taking into account that it is done for small groups, so you will have an almost exclusive tour.

The tour lasts approximately eleven hours and is an adventure that you can experience at any time of the year, although I would recommend visiting the Blue Lagoon as part of your activities to do in winter in Reykjavik. Other places you will see on this tour are Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall and of course Thingvellir.

  • Duration: This tour has an approximate duration of eleven hours or full day.
  • Means of transportation: The tour is done by minibus from the departure in Reykjavík and back.
  • Advantages of this tour: Entrance to the Blue Lagoon is included as well as a silica mud mask and towel. A complimentary drink at the Blue Lagoon is included in the price. Included in this tour are entrance fees to Kerid Crater and a professional guide who will tell you everything you need to know about each site. Wifi is available in the minibus for all passengers. Round trip transportation from the hotel is included.
  • Disadvantages of this excursion: Children under 5 years old cannot participate in this experience. Meals and beverages are not included except for the complimentary one at Blue Lagoon, however, a stop for lunch is made when necessary.

5. Volcanic hike and Blue Lagoon in Reykjanes

The Reykjanes Peninsula is one of the most attractive places to visit in Iceland and that is because this is where you will find the most frequently erupting volcanoes and therefore the coolest lava fields on the island. This is also the location of the Blue Lagoon.

During this experience, which is one of the best excursions and getaways from Reykjavik you will have the opportunity to make an exciting hike through the places where you can still see the fresh volcanic lava with moss around it. It is a spectacle of nature that you cannot miss. After the hike you can not miss the respective rest in the hot springs of the Blue Lagoon.

  • Duration: This excursion can last approximately 9 to 11 hours.
  • Means of transport: The transfer is by bus with all facilities from Reykjavík to the Reykjanes peninsula.
  • Advantages of this tour: Transport by minibus is included and the transfer from the hotel and back is also included. You have access to free wifi on the bus during the entire excursion. Admission to the Blue Lagoon is the comfort version, if you select this option.
  • Disadvantages of this excursion: It is not a trip suitable for people with reduced mobility or for pregnant women. It is not recommended for people with heart problems. Swimming suit rental, lunch and snacks are not included in the price, but stops are made to purchase such meals.

6. Combined whale watching tour and entrance fee to the Blue Lagoon

The whale watching tour is a quintessential activity to include in your list of things to do in Reykjavik in summer, and that is because it is the best time to enjoy the arrival of whales to the shores of Iceland that come to feed. On this combined tour you will be able to see whales and swim in the Blue Lagoon, much more than you could ask for.

Before going to the lagoon you can go on the whale watching tour in Reykjavík that goes to Faxaflói Bay which is one of the places where you are most likely to see whales. After finishing with this expedition, you will go directly to the Blue Lagoon to relax with a hot spring bath.

Otherwise you can go by private car and park near the port or go by public transport. After the whale watching tour is over, a bus will take you to the Blue Lagoon and back.
  • Advantages of this excursion: All local taxes are included, as well as the whale watching excursion on board the boat and the entrance fee to the Blue Lagoon. The transfer to the lagoon and a tour guide who will explain everything you will see on the tour are included.
  • Disadvantages of this excursion: It is an adventure not suitable for children under 2 years old. The whale watching is not 100% guaranteed since it is a natural event. It is a tour that can only be done in summer to increase the probability of whale watching.

7. Tour of Reykjavík and comfortable entrance to the Blue Lagoon

This is one of my favorite tours and that's because it gives you a chance to get a close look at Iceland's capital before going to relax a bit at the Blue Lagoon. Before you go straight to bathe in the hot springs, this is one of the best tours of Reykjavik, because you get to know the city in the company of a history expert.

Among the most interesting sites you will see in Iceland's capital are the Harpa Opera House, the city church and of course its picturesque streets. After touring the city and soaking in its history and culture, the bus will take you to the Blue Lagoon where you can take a thermal bath in its 40º C water temperature.

  • Price: This tour has an approximate price of 904 euros per person, although it may vary according to the size of the group.
  • Duration: The experience can last approximately 6 hours.
  • Means of transportation: Transportation will be in a bus equipped with all the amenities.
  • Advantages of this tour: This tour is available in Portuguese, Danish, Spanish, Italian and English. Roundtrip transfer to and from the hotel in Reykjavik is included. A towel, complimentary drink and silica mask are included in the entrance fee to the Blue Lagoon. An experienced tour guide is included. It is completely private so only your group participates.

8. Blue Lagoon tour with private driver

On this tour you will take a private cab to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you will learn about some of the local geography before arriving to relax at Iceland' s most popular natural spa, the Blue Lagoon.

Additional sites you will see on the peninsula include the fishing village of Grindavik and Iceland's oldest lighthouse. This is a private experience that only you and your group will participate in , so it is available for a maximum of 4 people.

  • Price: The price per person is approximately €340.
  • Duration: The duration of this experience is five to six hours.
  • Transportation: A private cab will pick you up at your hotel and take you back when the experience is over.
  • Advantages of this excursion: The tour is private and with a dedicated driver. The transfer from your accommodation and back is included.
  • Disadvantages of this tour: Entrance to the Blue Lagoon is not included. If you prefer the transfer from Keflavik airport it is also included in the price. Local taxes are included.

9. Full day Blue Lagoon and Northern Lights tour

Winter is the best time to see the Northern Lights from Reykjavik, as they are only visible during the very dark winter nights. On this tour you will have the chance to go hunting for the Northern Lights from Reykjavik and bathe in the hot springs of the Blue Lagoon.

The adventure is in two parts, the first part is an excursion to the Blue Lagoon where you can bathe in the hot springs and enjoy a drink of your choice, and the other part of the excursion will be at dusk to enjoy the Northern Lights. Between activities you will have time to have dinner and rest in Reykjavik before moving on to the next activity.

  • Duration: This experience can last approximately 8 hours.
  • Means of transportation: If you do not contract the pick up service at your hotel, you can arrive at the meeting point by private vehicle or public transportation. The rest of the excursion will be by equipped bus.

  • Always bring warm clothes to each of the experiences, no matter if it is winter or summer. Also try to bring comfortable shoes and hiking shoes, as well as waterproof jackets and sunglasses.
  • If you are pregnant or suffer from back problems, consult a doctor before embarking on an excursion of this type.
  • In case you go with children, make sure they meet the minimum age to participate in the experiences.
  • When choosing the clothes you will take with you on your trip to Iceland, don't forget your towel and swimsuit so that you can enjoy your visit to the Blue Lagoon in comfort.
