Experience Highlights

Discover the wilder side of northern Scotland with this tour to the Moray coast and Speyside whisky distillery from Inverness, a full day of cliffs, endless beaches, fishing villages and the country's most famous single malt region. You'll travel in a small group with a local guide as you travel along one of the least crowded stretches of coastline in the Highlands.

The route will take you to landmarks such as Findhorn Beach, the spectacular Bow Fiddle Rock sea arch, the charming village of Cullen and the historic Old Packhorse Bridge, combining scenic stops, gentle strolls and photo opportunities. Later, the tour moves into Speyside, the heart of Scotch whisky production, to visit a local distillery where you can learn how the 'water of life' is made.

The tour departs Inverness city centre early in the morning and lasts around 11 hours, with English speaking guide and commentary en route. The distillery tour includes an explanation of the process, and you'll have the chance to add a whisky tasting for an extra fee directly on site.

Step by Step

This tour to the Moray coast and Speyside whisky distillery from Inverness is ideal if you're looking for a day out off the beaten track, combining coastal scenery, wildlife and Scotch whisky culture. Departing from the centre of Inverness in a comfortable coach, accompanied by a local English-speaking guide, you'll head east along the coastline of the Moray Firth.

The first part of the day focuses on the Moray coast, a stretch of sea characterised by towering cliffs, wild beaches and small harbour towns. You'll stroll along Findhorn Beach, a bay of golden sands and dunes, and continue on to Portknockie, where the impressive Bow Fiddle Rock awaits, a natural rock arch that emerges from the sea and has become one of the iconic landmarks of the area.

The tour continues to the picturesque village of Cullen, known for its viaduct, pretty harbour and local soup called Cullen Skink. Here you will have time to explore, take photos and usually stop for lunch on your own. Along the coastline, your guide will point out perfect spots for spotting seabirds and even, depending on the season and with a bit of luck, seals or dolphins. Seabirds, puffins and other animals are not guaranteed, but this coastline is a real paradise for nature lovers.

In the afternoon, the tour heads inland, following the Malt Whisky Trail to a whisky distillery in Speyside. There you will learn more about the process of making Scotch whisky: from malting and fermentation to distillation and cask ageing. The tour usually includes a guided introduction and time to visit the shop and, if you wish, take part in a whisky tasting, payable directly at the distillery. It's the perfect end to a day dedicated to the most authentic Highland scenery and flavours.

Before returning to Inverness, you'll still make one last stop at the Old Packhorse Bridge, the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands, located in the village of Carrbridge. This historic spot, surrounded by nature, rounds off a very full day, in which you will have discovered the Moray coast, the wildlife of the north of Scotland and the heart of Speyside whisky in a single day.

Perfect if you like nature and want to get to know a bit of whisky culture. Maybe too many hours on the move, but it was worth it.

The guide's attentiveness and the explanations about the whisky. I never thought that learning about distilleries would be so entertaining.

Beautiful scenery and charming villages. I would have liked them to include more time for independent exploration.
