Step by Step
Enjoy this visit to the Egyptian Museum in Barcelona, covering over 2,000 square metres. This space houses artefacts from a civilisation dating back more than 2,000 years that continues to amaze visitors. For those who wish to receive information during the tour, an audio guide is available in four languages.
If you’d like to see how the ancient Egyptians lived, this is your chance. Across the museum’s two floors, you can explore the permanent collections, which are divided into different categories. You’ll also be able to visit the museum’s temporary exhibition galleries, which are refreshed from time to time.
As you enter the museum, you’ll come across various statues that will transport you back to Ancient Egypt and its different dynasties. Among the most notable figures are the statue of a nobleman from the Old Kingdom, as well as the statue of Pharaoh Ramses III, who is regarded as the last great pharaoh of the New Kingdom.
It is worth noting that Egyptian civilisation is renowned for the vast number of artefacts bequeathed to posterity, which you can see in this museum. The gold head of the god Osiris, storage jars, a bronze mirror depicting the gods Osiris, Isis and Nephthys, and even erotic figures are just some of the treasures on display.
Furthermore, on the next floor, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the beliefs and funerary practices of the ancient Egyptians – something that greatly appeals to both the curious and experts alike. Among the highlights are the mummy now known as the Lady of Kemet, as well as a cat mummy – the quintessential animal of that era.
Reviews
- RR.Much better than I expected, it was a good experience. Nothing to criticize the museum, maybe the size but being a private collection it is understandable that it is small.
