Step by Step
Embark on a full-day tour of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa's first World Heritage Site in 1999. This park, located on the KwaZulu-Natal coast, is home to wetlands, coastal lakes and exceptional biodiversity.
Your journey begins with a pick-up or drop-off in St Lucia. Aboard a vehicle with water coolers, you'll head into the park accompanied by a local ranger, who will share the history of the area and help you spot species such as hippos, crocodiles and numerous birds.
After the morning safari and stops at natural lookouts, weather and tide permitting, you'll strap on a mask and snorkel to explore the marine life in Cape Vidal Bay. There you will discover sea urchins, corals and tropical fish in a protected environment.
At lunchtime, you'll enjoy a full picnic lunch prepared by your operator, with sandwiches, salads and soft drinks, all served by the sea. This will give you energy for the second half of the tour, which includes more sightings and routes along the park's dirt tracks and walkways.
Finally, after 6-7 hours of immersion in nature, the ranger will escort you back to the starting point or to your accommodation in Santa Lucia, leaving you with souvenirs and photographs of a unique ecosystem in the world.
