Experience Highlights

Discover one of the great treasures of the Mediterranean with this full-day excursion to Capri from Rome. You’ll travel south through the Roman countryside and continue from Naples by ferry to the island, where coastal scenery, charming narrow streets and the lively Piazzetta await you.

When booking, you can choose from three options: a self-guided tour to explore Capri at your own pace, a guided tour with collection from your hotel in Rome, or a guided tour without collection, starting directly at the meeting point. The guided options also include a visit to the famous Blue Grotto.

The activity takes up practically the whole day and includes all necessary travel between Rome, Naples and Capri. On the self-guided option, you’ll have a tour leader to accompany you during the transfers, whilst on the guided options you’ll explore the island accompanied by a local guide.

  • Choose between Capri on your own or two guided tour options
  • Travel from Rome by coach and cross over to Capri by ferry
  • Add a guide and a visit to the Blue Grotto with the guided options

Step by Step

The day begins early in Rome as you set off on your journey south, travelling through the Roman countryside and the Castelli Romani area. Upon arrival in Naples, you’ll continue by ferry for approximately one hour to Capri, enjoying views of the gulf and the Mediterranean during the crossing.

Once on the island, your experience will depend on the option you’ve chosen. With the self-guided option, you’ll have time to explore Capri at your own pace, stroll through its narrow streets, visit the Piazzetta and decide which places you’d like to see. You’ll have a companion to help with getting around, but you won’t be taking a guided tour of the island.

Both guided options include the services of a local guide in Capri. During the tour, you’ll discover some of the island’s most famous spots, and the tour includes a visit to the Blue Grotto, known for the intense blue hue the water takes on when light enters the cave.

The difference between the two guided options lies in how the day begins. You can opt for the convenience of being picked up from your hotel in Rome, provided it is within the designated area, or head directly to the meeting point next to Villa Borghese.

After spending the afternoon exploring Capri, you’ll return by ferry to Naples and continue by coach to Rome. This excursion is designed to let you discover the island in a single day, whether at your own pace or as part of a more structured, guided tour.

  • Self-guided Capri excursion: includes return transport between Rome and Naples, return ferries to Capri and a tour leader during the excursion. Once on the island, you can organise your visit at your own pace. The Blue Grotto is not included in this option but can be added on site if conditions allow.
  • Guided tour with hotel collection: includes collection from selected hotels in Rome, transport, ferry, a local guide in Capri and a visit to the Blue Grotto. The return journey ends at the designated meeting point in Rome, not at your hotel.
  • Guided tour without hotel collection: this offers the same guided tour and a visit to the Blue Grotto, but starts directly at the designated meeting point in the centre of Rome.

I loved this trip because you enjoy so much on the boat and then the beauty of your island.
