Step by Step

This tour lasts approximately 2 hours and focuses on the gastronomic specialities of Naples. The city of Vesuvius is famous for its street food and locals who perpetuate traditional recipes. An expert guide will accompany you through the old town, allowing you to sample not only street food but also limoncello and a cup of espresso coffee. The route usually runs through the Quartieri Spagnoli neighbourhood and the starting point is usually the Pignasecca Market.

Naples is synonymous with pizza, and you don't have to sit around a table to enjoy it. During the itinerary you can taste two versions: fried pizza and pizza a portafoglio. In the second case, it is folded on itself, has a smaller diameter and fewer toppings, although it is no less tasty. In turn, the tour usually includes other specialities such as:

  • Tarallo napoletano - A savoury baked product in the shape of a doughnut. The dough is lard-based and includes pepper and almonds.
  • Mozzarella - Italy's most famous fresh cheese. It is made from fresh, whole buffalo milk, raised on open pasture. On the palate, it has a more compact exterior that hides a creamy heart.
  • Cuoppo - The most famous Neapolitan street food. It is an absorbent paper cone that encloses fried foods such as calamari, battered vegetables, crocchè (potato and cheese croquettes), scagliuozz (fried polenta triangles), macaroni omelette and much more. There are usually three varieties: land, sea and sweet.
  • Trippa - A cold salad made from pig's feet and snout. The flavour is made milder by the lemon and oil dressing.

A gastronomic tour of Naples cannot leave out the sweet part. The city is known for desserts such as sfogliatelle (a puff pastry filled with sweet ricotta cheese), pastiera (a shortcrust pastry filled with ricotta cheese, eggs, sugar, milk and orange blossom flavouring) and babà, a soft cake soaked in rum. The tour also includes a glass of limoncello and a steaming cup of coffee.
