Step by Step

The Vancouver Aquarium is Canada's largest and most important aquarium. It is an ideal destination for those travelling with children, who have the opportunity to see up close and interact with some of the marine animals. The attraction is divided into different environments and the following list summarises the most popular ones:

  • Penguin Point - Cape Penguins live on the South African coast and one of their favourite beaches is Boulders Beach, just a few kilometres from the capital. This area recreates their habitat and allows you to admire them up close. They are recognisable by the black "mask" that covers most of their face.
  • Steller's Bay - The home of the sea lions. They have a massive body, reddish-brown hair and a distinctive mane. They love to lie on the rocks to rest, licked by the water.
  • Canada's Arctic - What are the repercussions of melting ice? This space explores the effects of global warming in the Arctic.
  • Graham Amazon Gallery - A slice of rainforest in the heart of Vancouver. Not only are there animals that live in the rivers of the Amazon, but also species such as sloths and ibis.
  • Wet Lab - Where the little ones can touch some invertebrates with their hands: sea anemones, shrimps, sea urchins, etc. The space is only open at weekends.
  • BBC Earth's Shark: A 4D Experience® - A 15-minute short film about the life of the oceans' most fearsome predators: sharks. The vibrations, sounds and even the smells make for an immersive experience.

The aquarium is located within walking distance of Stanley Park and is easily accessible either on foot (a 20-minute walk from the centre) or by bus (line 19).
