The city of Boston in Massachusetts is home to just one team: the Boston Celtics. When the NBA held its first championship, the Celtics were already there. After an initial period of establishing themselves, the New England side has enjoyed numerous successes — such as the legendary ‘Dynasty’ between 1959 and 1966 — which have elevated them to the pantheon of this competition.

Throughout its history, fans have been able to admire legends such as Bill Russell (his number 6 shirt was retired across the entire NBA as a tribute), Larry Bird, Robert Parish and, in more recent times, stars such as Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.

In the 2026–27 season, the Celtics return to the TD Garden after finishing the previous campaign with a solid 56–26 record and topping the Atlantic Division. The aim in Boston will be to challenge for the title once again with a squad that retains its key players, in an arena that will continue to buzz during the most eagerly anticipated clashes against historic rivals and contenders from both the East and West.

How much does it cost to watch an NBA match in Boston?

On average, a single-match ticket for the Celtics is usually around €80. That said, it depends on the opposition. If the opposition is a top-class team or a historic rival, this figure can easily rise . It’s not uncommon to find a single ticket costing over €200.

Another factor to bear in mind is the time of the season. If you’re travelling to Boston during the play-offs, finding a ticket is quite tricky. You might find something on the secondary market, but bear in mind that the average price is $250. I’d recommend buying them through official channels well in advance.

If you’re travelling to Massachusetts and wondering how to spend less on your tickets, bear the following tips in mind:

  • If you’re travelling to Boston in October, you can find cheaper tickets. It’s the start of the season and there are lots of competitions taking place: the MLB play-offs and the NFL and NHL seasons. With so much competition, it’s easy to find good value for money
  • Book a seat for matches on Mondays or Wednesdays. Statistically, prices are much lower compared to at weekends
  • Algorithms have shown that the Balcony 322 and Lodge 7 sections are the most popular with those looking to save money
  • Avoid matches against the Lakers. Any Celtics fan would go to great lengths to see the Californians beaten

What are the best seats at TD Garden?

What are the best seats at TD Garden?

Depending on the kind of experience you’re looking for, the best seats to watch the Celtics are usually in the Loge sections, particularly in the central areas and the front rows, as they offer a very balanced view of the whole court and allow you to follow both the game and the action on the benches closely. Rather than a specific location such as Loge 1, row 2, it’s best to look for seats in the centre of Loge sections 1–21, as these combine proximity with a good view.

Generally speaking, there are no bad seats at the TD Garden, but if you choose tickets in the highest section, the Balcony, it’s best to opt for a central area to ensure a more comfortable and comprehensive view of the match. If you’re looking for a more exclusive experience, you can also check out the VIP areas at court level or the Premium Club seats, although these tend to be considerably more expensive.

Can I visit the TD Garden if I’m not going to a match?

Yes, inside TD Garden – specifically on Premium Levels 5 and 6 – you’ll find the Sports Museum. This cultural institution celebrates the achievements of two local teams: the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics. Not only will you see memorabilia linked to ice hockey and basketball, but you’ll also discover how these sports have shaped the very spirit of the city.

As usual, you can visit it three or four times a day and the tour lasts about an hour. As for the price, it’s around $20, whilst a child’s ticket costs roughly half that. For more information, you can take a look at the official website.

When to watch a Boston Celtics match in the 2026–2027 season

As one of the most successful teams in the NBA, the green-and-whites have made many enemies throughout their history. If you’re up for a real challenge, check the official 2026–2027 season fixture list before planning your holiday on the East Coast.

The Celtics’ most significant and famous rival remains the Los Angeles Lakers – a rivalry that began in the era of Bird and Magic Johnson, when both teams battled it out for the championship year after year. The rivalry is so intense that ESPN produced a hit miniseries: ‘Celtics/Lakers: Best Enemies’. When they face off, the matches are spectacular and the atmosphere unforgettable.

This new season, as well as the classic clash against the Lakers, the TD Garden will host some highly anticipated fixtures:

  • Chicago Bulls: always a tough opponent, with matches that are often decided in the final minute.
  • Philadelphia 76ers: a historic rivalry dating back to the 1967 play-offs that continues to fire up the fans.
  • Detroit Pistons: frequent opponents in the 1980s, with memorable clashes such as the 66–64 game in 2002.
  • Miami Heat: a more recent rivalry, which has intensified since LeBron James’s time in Florida.
  • New York Knicks: less intense than in the past, but the pride between Boston and the Big Apple never wanes.

Firstly, it’s worth remembering that in basketball, playing time is running time. The clock stops every time there is a foul or the ball goes out of play. Generally, each match consists of four 12-minute quarters, lasting a total of 48 minutes.

Time-outs must also be taken into account. This term refers to a temporary suspension of play requested by one of the two teams. Each team is allowed six time-outs. Not only the coach but also the players can call a time-out.

Do children have to pay for entry at the TD Garden?

It depends on their age. For Boston Celtics matches, children under 2 do not have to pay for a ticket. Little ones must sit on a parent’s lap. Celtics fans are very passionate and matches tend to be very noisy.

If you think your child might feel overwhelmed or even scared, it might be better to choose a different activity. If you’re travelling to the East Coast with your little ones, I recommend reading the post on the 10 things to do in Boston with children.

Are there any matches over Christmas during the 2026–2027 season?

Of course there are! The NBA maintains its traditional Christmas Day fixtures, and the 2026–2027 season will be no different. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience a different sort of 25 December, enjoying the unique atmosphere of the TD Garden whilst watching the Boston Celtics take on top-tier opponents.

Winter in Massachusetts is characterised by low temperatures, and indoor basketball is an excellent way to escape the cold and enjoy a thrilling experience. If you’re in the city around that time, it’s a plan that combines sport, tradition and the warmth of the fans.

If you’re visiting this East Coast metropolis at this time of year, I recommend reading the article on the 10 things to see and do in Boston in December.

Now you know almost everything you need to know about watching the NBA in Boston. All that’s left are a few tips, which you’ll find below.

Where to eat

The food stalls at the TD Garden offer good quality food, but, as is often the case in stadiums, the prices are higher than elsewhere in the city. For this reason, I’d recommend a few places to satisfy your hunger before (or after) the match:

  • Banners, a restaurant with a big screen, ideal for watching live sport. If you can’t get a seat at TD Garden, this could be a great option (82 Causeway Street)
  • Bodega Canal, a stylish Mexican restaurant. It also has a good selection of margaritas (57 Canal Street)
  • A & B Burgers, specialising in top-quality burgers. The restaurant works with small family farms that produce sustainably reared beef (206 Cabot Street, Beverly)
  • Half Time Pizza. As well as classic American pizzas, it’s famous for specialities such as ‘Yes! The Taco Pizza’ (with chilli-style minced beef, mozzarella, cheddar, Doritos and sour cream) and the ‘Halftime Supreme’ with mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, mushrooms, black olives, red onions and jalapeños (115 Causeway Street)
  • The Greatest Bar, a sports bar that turns into a club in the evening. If you fancy a night out in Boston, this is the place for you (262 Friend Street)
  • Alcove, American cuisine with Mediterranean touches (50 Lovejoy Wharf)

Where to park

The North Station Garage, located beneath the TD Garden, is the best option. It usually offers a flat rate of around $50 if you leave your car 3 hours before the event. Alternatively, you could choose:

When should you head to the stadium?

In Boston, basketball is almost a religion. Fans follow the team faithfully and support them from the first minute right through to the end. For this reason, I recommend arriving at the arena well in advance. You’ll have a more relaxed journey and avoid the ‘traffic jam’ that usually forms at the entrance.

Wi-Fi

Of course! What’s more, when it was refurbished, the TD Garden installed a high-density Wi-Fi network. If you’re wondering what that means, the answer is simple. This term refers to all networks designed to provide simultaneous coverage to multiple Wi-Fi users.

The Boston Celtics’ arena is just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. If you don’t want to (or can’t) drive, public transport is here to help. North Station (the closest to TD Garden) is served by the Orange and Green lines. The light rail (lines B, C, D and E) also stops here.
