The Golden State Warriors franchise — the city’s only one — has had a history that is as successful as it is nomadic. Founded in Philadelphia, it moved to San Francisco in the 1960s, spent time in Daly City and San José, relocated to Oakland and finally returned to ‘San Fran’ in the autumn of 2019. That is why its name does not refer to the city itself, but rather to the nickname of the state of California: Golden State.

Over the years, the Chase Centre has been the stage for some of the greatest players in basketball history: Stephen Curry — the man who revolutionised the team and its mainstay —, Klay Thompson — one of the greatest shooters of all time —, Kevin Durant and Chris Mullin.

In the 2026–27 season, the Warriors face a very different situation after finishing the previous campaign with a 37–45 record, missing out on the play-offs and finishing fourth in the Pacific Division. The team will continue to rely on Stephen Curry as its mainstay, but the big challenge for Golden State will be to rebuild their competitiveness in the West, lean on young players such as Brandin Podziemski and find the right balance in a squad that also features names such as Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler.

The Golden State Warriors’ home ground

The Californian team’s home is the Chase Centre, a modern sports arena opened in 2019, which hosted its inaugural game – a pre-season fixture against the Los Angeles Lakers. Interestingly, the arena is decorated with contemporary artworks thanks to a partnership with the SFMOMA, one of San Francisco’s finest museums.

Tickets to see the Warriors can be easily purchased online. To avoid buying counterfeit tickets and to secure your seat at the Chase Centre, I recommend booking them in advance via Hellotickets. The website has an agreement with the team and offers fans official tickets.

The ticket office is located at the west entrance of the Chase Centre, but its opening hours are quite limited. It is only open on match days, one hour before the gates open. I wouldn’t recommend buying tickets there, as the queues are usually very long.

As a general rule, if you want a seat at the Chase Centre , I’d say you should budget just under €100. On average, this is the price of a good ticket that guarantees an excellent view of the court . For the most highly anticipated matches (big derbies or play-offs), be prepared to spend a lot more.

As with all other NBA teams, the cheapest Warriors matches are those scheduled during the week. Another very important factor is booking in advance. Don’t wait until the last minute to secure your seat at the Chase Centre. Finally, take a close look at the opposition.

If you’re a die-hard NBA fan, you’ll know that the Warriors’ arch-rivals are the Cleveland Cavaliers. When the Cavs come to the City by the Golden Gate, don’t expect to find cheap tickets.

The Chase Centre is a multi-purpose arena with a capacity of 18,000. It cost $1.4 billion to build and is one of the most modern venues in the country. When the Warriors are playing, these are the best seats:

• Cache Creek Club: Spanning sections 126 to 129, this area offers excellent proximity to the court, situated directly behind one of the baskets, as well as access to a premium area with an exclusive atmosphere, a range of food options and bar service.
• JP Morgan Club / Chase Club: If you’re looking for the most exclusive experience, the VIP AA and VIP BB seats provide access to the JP Morgan Club, one of the most luxurious areas in the arena. Meanwhile, sections 2 to 23 include access to the Chase Club, with direct entry to the court level and premium services.
• Sideline Clubs: These correspond to sections 101 to 106 and 113 to 118. This is where the United Globe Club and the Ultra Club are located, two of the best options for watching the match from the sidelines with excellent views, premium bars and a more comfortable experience than the standard stands.

No, the Chase Centre isn’t just a sports arena but a multi-purpose venue hosting concerts, rallies, events and more. There’s always something on, so guided tours aren’t organised. However, there are a few attractions and activities in the area that are well worth seeing or doing:

• Mission Rock, a new neighbourhood by the sea. It comprises approximately 1,500 rental homes, 40 per cent of which are reserved for low- and middle-income families. It’s a very interesting project, with small shops and cafés. If you get peckish or fancy a nice cold beer, you can head to the Mission Rock Resort (817 Terry A Francois Boulevard)
• Oracle Park, the Giants’ stadium.
• City Kayak. Just a short distance from the Chase Centre, you can hire a kayak and explore the waters surrounding the city. The 2026–27 NBA regular season will begin in October 2026 and run until April 2027. Next comes the most eagerly anticipated part of the calendar: the SoFi Play-In Tournament, followed by the play-offs, in which the top teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences face off across four rounds: the first round, conference semi-finals, conference finals and the NBA Finals.

As for the Finals, the champion is decided in a best-of-seven series. This means that, to lift the trophy, a team must beat their opponent four times. The NBA Finals usually get underway in early June.

Important: this does not mean that NBA matches – in this case, those involving the Golden State Warriors – are only played between October and June. You should also bear in mind the pre-season, which usually takes place in early October and is a good opportunity to see the team in action at a more affordable price.

Rivals

If you’re looking for a match with a special atmosphere at the Chase Centre, the fixtures against the Los Angeles Lakers remain the most eagerly anticipated due to the rivalry, media attention and the appeal of seeing Stephen Curry and Luka Dončić go head-to-head. Matches against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Sacramento Kings, two direct rivals in the Western Conference, also generate a great deal of excitement.

By contrast, referring to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a major current rivalry no longer makes as much sense as it did during the era of consecutive Finals appearances. Today, the fixtures that really get the Golden State crowd on their feet are, above all, those pitting them against other Western Conference heavyweights.

In American basketball, there are four quarters, each lasting 12 minutes. There is a 15-minute half-time break between the second and third quarters. Playing time is actual playing time, and ‘dead’ time is not counted. Consequently, the total duration can easily reach 2 hours.

It depends on their age. Children under 2 years old can enter the Chase Center free of charge. However, they must be accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket and must share a seat. Important: all children must be identified by a wristband. You can pick up this wristband for free at Gates 13 or 52.

At the end of the match (or even before), you’ll be given a certificate at the same gates to mark your child’s first match. A lovely touch, isn’t it? Just like other leagues, such as the English Premier League, the NBA also plays on Christmas Day. In the case of the world’s best basketball league, the Americans don’t wait until 26 December; on the contrary, they schedule several matches for 25 December itself. It’s a tradition that has been going since 1947 and which, in the 2026–2027 season, will once again feature top-class fixtures.

Where to eat

There’s no shortage of dining options at the Chase Centre. The arena is home to a range of fast-food outlets (Bakesale Betty, Hot Dog Bills, La Corneta, etc.) and a few places offering healthy food (notably The Green House and Kaiser Permanente Healthy Picks).

If you don’t want to head in too early and would rather enjoy the sea breeze, I recommend the following options:

• Spark, a food truck with some outdoor tables. From time to time, there’s also live music (601 Mission Bay Boulevard North)
• The Sea Star. True, there’s food, but the real stars of the show are the beers and cocktails. Personally, I recommend the Buena Vida (mezcal, gin, dry vermouth, pineapple, lime and chilli) and the Czechs & Balances with bourbon, Jelinek, pepper and honey (2289 3rd Street)
• Piccino, an Italian restaurant with Californian touches. Just in case you fancy a good plate of pasta or a perfectly baked pizza. The desserts are usually homemade (1001 Minnesota Street)
• The Ramp, a restaurant in the DogPatch neighbourhood. It has a spacious indoor courtyard that also hosts parties and concerts. Its menu includes eggs Benedict, salads, soups, sandwiches and much more (855 Terry Francois Boulevard)
• Ungrafted, one of San Francisco’s best wine bars (2419 3rd Street)

Where to park

The Chase Centre is located in the Mission Bay neighbourhood, on the corner of 3rd and 16th Streets. Public transport is the best way to get there, but if you can’t rely on it, you can leave your car at these car parks:

• UCSF Third Street Garage (1650 3rd Street)
• Mercedes-Benz Garage (99 Warriors Way)
• Warriors Way Garage (150 Warriors Way)
• Owens Garage (1800 Owens Street)

Bear in mind that, overall, the available space is quite limited. As for the price, you’ll need to pay around $50 to park your car whilst the event is taking place

When should you head to the stadium?

On match days, it’s a good idea to head to the Chase Centre well in advance. The Golden State Warriors have a large fan base, and many fans travel to San Francisco from nearby towns such as Oakland or Fremont. To ensure a stress-free journey, it’s best to set off early.

Wi-Fi

The Chase Centre has a free Wi-Fi network. Simply select the network “#XfinityWiFi@ChaseCenter” and log in on the homepage. Alternatively, if you need to access your email to retrieve your e-ticket, you can use the networks available in the venues surrounding the arena. Don’t worry, there’s no shortage of options.

Public transport provides links between the Golden State Warriors’ stadium and the rest of the city. To reach your destination, you can use the following options:

• Bus: routes 55, 78x and 79x pass near the arena
• Metro: simply take the T Third Street line and alight at UCSF/Chase Centre (16th Street)
• Light rail: the S Shuttle will take you just a stone’s throw from the arena. The stop is the same as in the previous point
