Step by Step
The excursion begins in the morning in Valencia and heads towards Morella, a spectacular walled town situated on top of a hill. After a journey of around two hours, you’ll arrive at a historic centre with cobbled streets, steep slopes and buildings that retain much of their medieval appearance.
Accompanied by an accredited local guide, you’ll discover some of its main monuments. You’ll visit Morella Castle, situated at the highest point of the town, and learn about the strategic importance the town held throughout history. The tour also includes other notable sites such as the Convent of San Francisco and the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor.
You’ll then have some free time to stroll through the streets of Morella before enjoying a traditional Morellan meal, which is included. If you have any allergies, food intolerances or follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, please let us know when booking so that we can take this into account.
The day continues in Peñíscola, a coastal town dominated by its castle and surrounded by the Mediterranean. During the guided tour of the old town, you’ll learn about the history of Pope Luna and stroll through streets steeped in medieval and Templar heritage, with stops outside landmarks such as the Casa de las Conchas and the Bufador.
After completing the visit to Peñíscola, you’ll head back to Valencia in the afternoon. This excursion combines heritage, scenery, cuisine and two very different atmospheres in a single day.
Reviews
- DD.A great excursion for seeing something different from Valencia. The guide kept the atmosphere lively and the places chosen were well thought out. I’d go on a trip like this again.
- CC.Morella was a complete surprise. The castle perched high above is very impressive. There were more people in Peñíscola, but the stroll through the old town made up for it.
- SS.I liked the fact that it wasn’t just a case of getting off the bus and taking photos. There were explanations, guided tours and some free time. Mind you, you do end up walking quite a lot.
- AA.A very full day. The medieval streets of Morella, the basilica and then the Bufador in Peñíscola made for a rather varied excursion.
