Step by Step

Experience Santiago de Compostela in all the depth and detail it deserves thanks to this two-hour private guided tour, perfect both for those visiting the city for the first time and for those wishing to rediscover it with fresh eyes. This tour combines history, art, legends and everyday spots in an accessible and enjoyable way.

You’ll begin with a historical introduction in the Praza das Praterías, opposite the fountain of the horses. From there, you’ll stroll past the cathedral’s four façades and its surrounding squares, where you’ll learn about its architectural evolution and the symbolism of its features: from the imposing Obradoiro façade to the Holy Door in the Plaza de Quintana.

The route continues through iconic streets in the old town such as Rúa do Franco and Rúa do Vilar, which have been at the heart of Santiago’s culinary and commercial life since the Middle Ages. You’ll also visit the exterior of the monumental Monastery of San Martín Pinario, the second largest in Spain, and explore the old Jewish quarter and the site where the Inquisition’s autos-da-fé were held.

To round off the tour, you’ll pass through the Mercado de Abastos, the city’s second most visited attraction, and the Porta de Mazarelos, the only remaining section of the medieval city walls. The walk ends in the Plaza de San Fiz de Solovio, leaving visitors with a comprehensive and enriching view of the city.

We finished up near the Mercado de Abastos and then took the opportunity to carry on exploring on our own. A very good tour.
