Step by Step

Visiting Pompeii is like travelling back in time. This ancient Roman city was buried under volcanic ash following the eruption of Vesuvius, which meant that many of its buildings, frescoes, mosaics and everyday objects were preserved for centuries. Today, it is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the world.

With your ticket and the official audio guide, you can explore the city at your own pace whilst listening to the stories that bring every corner to life: from the forums and thermal baths to bakeries, brothels and theatres. Thanks to the multilingual audio guide, you’ll be immersed in history as you listen to fascinating facts and unique anecdotes.

One of the most fascinating highlights of the tour is the House of Sirico, where the inscription ‘Salve lucro’ can still be read – a commercial greeting that speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit of the ancient Romans. You’ll also come across wine jugs marked ‘Vesuvinum’, proof that even in Rome, advertising ingenuity existed.

The experience is designed for you to take your time, savouring every detail of the tour.

I entered at 1 p.m., passed through the arch and followed the route suggested by the audio guide: amphitheatre, Vettii's house and finally the basilica. Three hours in a row.

Early spring visit = zero sweltering heat and photos without crowds. The express ticket saves you from looking at prices at the ticket office.

Perhaps adding a Spanish track would be the icing on the cake, but I still came away fascinated by the story behind each column.

I brought my own headphones and they worked perfectly with the audio guide jack. More comfortable than generic headphones.
