Step by Step

La Cité du Vin is not dedicated solely to Bordeaux wines, but to wine culture around the world. The tour begins long before you reach France and takes you back to the origins of wine production in the Caucasus and its subsequent spread across the Mediterranean and Western Europe.

As you make your way through the permanent exhibition, you’ll find content on wine-growing landscapes, production techniques, trade, gastronomy and ways of drinking wine in different cultures. The approach is highly visual and interactive, with installations that invite you to smell, listen and experiment.

You’ll also discover how wine has influenced art, society and celebrations over the centuries. The visit is self-guided, so you can linger in the areas that interest you most and tailor the tour to your own pace.

At the start, you’ll receive a Travel Companion, an interactive tool that guides you through the exhibition and helps you follow the content of the tour.

After the exhibition, you’ll head up to the Belvédère on the eighth floor. There, a glass of wine and a panoramic view of Bordeaux await you, providing the perfect finishing touch to the experience.

I was pleased to be able to visit the Cité du Vin, it is a very good policy to include wheelchairs for those of us who cannot get around without them.
