Step by Step

Embark on a culinary tour that will immerse you in the essence of Pittsburgh, a city where history and gastronomy merge to create an unforgettable experience. This 3-hour walking tour will take you past some of the most iconic spots in the city centre, whilst you sample classic and contemporary dishes that reflect the culinary diversity of the Steel City.

You’ll start at Point State Park, a historic site situated at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. Here you’ll discover the city’s significance in American expansion and the history of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne.

As you walk through the city centre, you’ll pass iconic buildings such as the PPG Industries Tower, the Gulf Tower and the U.S. Steel Tower – symbols of Pittsburgh’s industrial heritage.

Whilst enjoying the architecture and vibrant city life, you’ll stop off at various establishments to sample a variety of local specialities. Among the dishes you’ll try are:

  • Pepperoni roll, a classic Pittsburgh snack.
  • Beans and vegetables, a comforting dish with roots in local tradition.
  • Gourmet grilled cheese and tomato soup, a pairing that combines nostalgia and modernity.
  • Lasagne wrap, a creative reinterpretation of a favourite Italian dish.
  • S’mores Pop, a sweet treat that pays homage to the American tradition of campfires.
  • Our delicious secret dish, which will be revealed during the tour.

You’ll pass through Market Square, a public space steeped in history where the first newspaper west of the Allegheny Mountains was printed. You’ll also explore the Penn-Liberty Historic District, home to theatres and cultural centres such as Heinz Hall, where music and art come to life.

This tour is not just a culinary experience, but an opportunity to discover the evolution of Pittsburgh, from its industrial past to its present as a vibrant culinary destination.

A bit different from what I have done before on other food tours. The group was a good size, it didn't feel overcrowded.

I was amused to see the mix of industrial architecture and modern food. A nice contrast.

If you are short on time in Pittsburgh and want something different, I recommend this tour. Quiet, unhurried, tasty.

I had high expectations and they were generally met, although some dishes seemed less "authentic" than I thought they would be.
