Step by Step

After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
Enjoy a brief visit to the stunning red rocks of Sedona! After a photo stop at Bell Rock, you'll have approximately 30 minutes in Uptown to enjoy the shops and galleries while surrounded by the beautiful views. You'll also experience the scenic drive through Oak Creek Canyon!
You’ll experience approximately 2.5 hours within the National Park marveling at the beauty that is the Grand Canyon. You will be driven to viewpoints as well as have free time to walk to various viewpoints and points of interest. Visit the historic El Tovar Lodge, Hopi House, Mather Point or Yavapai Point (these viewpoints are subject to change), the Geology Museum and more incredible viewpoints! While at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park, you will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or enjoy lunch (own expense) and relax with the best seat in the house.

This had to be the best guided tour I've ever experience. Despite the slightly longer ride, the ride was comfortable, Nate (Nathan) push it further by making sure we are enjoyed the trip and the ride with information and fun facts. He even though in geology quiz! Can't help to notice Nate super caring attitude towards the tour members especially if we needed any help. Definitely recommend this trip and of course our guide!

I booked this tour the night before and it was worth every penny. Nathan (Nate) picked me up from the JW Marriott Desert Ridge at 7 sharp and there were 8 of us in the van: 3 couples and two singles (the van could accommodate 12). Nate was an enthusiastic guide with 20+ years of experience and it showed. He taught us about the geology of the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and all the places we passed on the drive. I was worried about a 3.5-hour drive each way but it flew by with his educational and sometimes personal anecdotes. He was always checking in and offering adjust the AC, to talk less/more, or change his content if we were not interested in certain topics or even possibly offended by scientific angle (we were not, but that was considerate). Once at the GC, we had 3 hours to ourselves to “hike” the gentle trail on the rim. My trail partner and I took incredible photos and ended this leisurely walk with a hearty lunch at the historic El Tovar Hotel (ok food but you’re mostly there for the history and big windows overlooking the canyon). Back on the van, Nate took us to downtown Sedona and Bell Rock, timing it perfectly with magic hour and the sunset, respectively. More incredible photographs! The drive back kept us on schedule for drop-offs so while it was a long day for me 7 am - 7 pm, I would do it again. Big thanks to our guide, Nate, for keeping it fun and interesting.

The Detours organisation was excellent, driver/guide Bruce was super informative and the Grand Canyon stops were truly epic. Lots of time to explore the trails, museum and just to walk the rim. Then lots of time to enjoy spectacular Sedona. Well timed rest stops made the long trip go much faster. Highly recommended.

The Grand Canyon/Sedona trip was magnificent! I am William the Dodgers fan from L.A. and my driver, Mark H. is a Padres fan. Mark made our trip truly memorable and I was truly impressed with how Mark H. handled his job and his vehicle while keeping his passengers well informed and entertained. I grade Mark H. and Detours with an A+ because they earned my appreciation for a job well done. I absolutely love their tour and I highly recommend my driver Mark H.
