Step by Step
New York takes on a completely different atmosphere at Christmas, and this guided tour allows you to discover some of its most iconic sights on a leisurely 1-hour-and-30-minute route. Over a distance of approximately 1.6 kilometres, you’ll stroll along flat streets decorated with lights, trees and shop windows specially designed for the festive season.
The experience begins near the Paris Theatre and continues along Fifth Avenue, where the major department stores and luxury brands compete every year to create some of the city’s most spectacular Christmas decorations. You’ll be able to admire the shop windows of Bergdorf Goodman and Saks, as well as the flagship stores of Cartier, Tiffany and other renowned brands.
Along the route, you’ll visit some truly charming spots:
- Rockefeller Centre: admire the majestic Christmas tree and its famous ice rink.
- St Patrick’s Cathedral: one of New York’s most beautiful churches, with its illuminated Gothic façade.
- The Plaza Hotel: the setting for the film Home Alone 2.
- Radio City Music Hall: home to the Christmas Spectacular Show.
- 5th Avenue shop windows: be dazzled by the decorations at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Cartier and Tiffany.
- Bryant Park Winter Village: the tour ends at this winter market with dozens of stalls, cafés and a free ice rink (you only pay for skate hire).
One of the most eagerly awaited moments comes at Rockefeller Centre, where you’ll learn about the history of its famous Christmas tree, admire the ice rink and stroll through the Channel Gardens, decorated with their characteristic angel figures.
The tour concludes at Bryant Park’s Winter Village. From there, you can continue exploring the market, buy gifts, sample products from the stalls or head to the ice rink on your own.
Reviews
- VV.I liked the tour that mixes Bryant Park with the market trolleys. Good choice for an urban Christmas.
- HH.Enjoyable guide, lots of photo stops. In one section I didn't quite catch an explanation due to street noise.
- EE.Urban route with magic: trees, lights, music. In the stretch of shops the traffic of people is robust.
- AA.I wish the final section had been longer, but overall it was impeccable.
