Nikko, Kegon Waterfall and Chuzenji Lake Day Trip from Tokyo

The tour begins in Tokyo’s elegant Ginza district, from where you’ll set off for the mountains and forests of Nikko. As you leave the urban landscape behind, you’ll enter a region renowned for its historic shrines, its natural beauty and its deep connection to Japanese traditions.

The first highlight will be the Shinkyo Bridge, a striking red arch over the Daiya River that marks the symbolic entrance to the sacred area of Nikko. You will then visit the Toshogu Shrine, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu and famous for its lavishly decorated buildings, its colours and its intricate carvings. The shrine forms part of the Nikko group of temples and shrines, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Access to the interior will depend on the tour option selected.

The route continues to Kegon Falls, where the waters of Lake Chuzenji plunge almost 100 metres between rocky cliffs and lush vegetation. You’ll have time to admire the scenery and have lunch, either with the meal included in the relevant option or at your own expense for the other options. Kegon is one of Nikko’s most iconic waterfalls and offers a different landscape in every season.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the tranquil Lake Chuzenji, situated at the foot of Mount Nantai, before heading back to Tokyo.
