Arrive in Cortona and enjoy a walk through the heart of this walled hill town, which is little changed since medieval times. Admire the ocher-colored houses that line the cobbled lanes and piazzas and listen as your guide recounts its history and recent surge in popularity for featuring in 'Under the Tuscan Sun', American writer Frances Mayes’ tales of life in Tuscany in the 1990s.

Stop At: Basilica di Santa Margherita, Piazzale Santa Margherita 1, 52044, Cortona Italy

Perhaps enjoy some free time to look around the picture-postcard streets independently and maybe visit the 19th-century Cathedral of St Margaret (Basilica di Santa Margherita), perched on the hilltop.

Stop At: Chianti Road, Italy

With your appetite sated, drive through the rolling Chianti countryside to the charming hilltop town of Montepulciano, known for its ruby-red Vino di Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano wines, produced here since early medieval times. Visit one of the town’s oldest rock-cut wine cellars and hear how the region’s wines are produced as you run your palate by some of the varieties.

Stop At: Lake Trasimeno, Perugia Italy

Continue along the banks of Lake Trasimeno in Umbria, and stop for lunch at an authentic farmhouse restaurant. Enjoy a tempting 4-course of regional dishes, washed down with drinks (own expense). Please see the Itinerary for a sample menu.

    The Tour guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area we toured. We had plenty of free time when we wanted it. This tour was just what we were looking for. A lot of up hill climbing, but so much fun! No pressure.We'd do it again!

    Best tour ever!! Charming little towns, historical landmarks, and gorgeous scenery. People in Cortona were very friendly. Great food and shopping. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable on drive up and during tour. This tour allowed for few hours to explore on your own between stops. Part of the tour we were taken to small family restaurant for 4 course meal and small wine tasting, pasta, salad, chicken, and dessert, good food and service. Recommend wearing comfortable shoes, there is some walking up incline at both towns in order to reach main area. Going up can be difficult for some. Our Tour guide assisted older couple with cab that would take them up to center of town, due to steep incline, only about 2-3 city blocks. This tour also picked us up at hotel and drop us off, which was great!

    Exceptional. Tour had only two of us, but went ahead anyway. Locale was terrific, we bought food as we went through the countryside, and cooked it in a private apartment in one of the old hill towns. Unlimited wine. Chef was knowledgeable and helpful, and great company.

    Awesome Tuscan countryside. Cortona was beautiful and a great place for shopping or just roaming the streets. Wine tour and tasting was wonderful!
