Step by Step

Experience first-hand the plight of more than 200,000 prisoners who were sent to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Nazi regime.

What is now a reminder of the darkest days in Berlin’s history was once a school of brutality and terror. Furthermore, it was used to train SS guards who later served in other camps across Europe.

The tour begins in Berlin, from where you’ll travel with the guide to the camp. This involves taking the train, so you’ll need to purchase a day ticket for zones ABC, either on your own or with the guide’s assistance.

During the tour, to set the scene, the local guide will explain the Nazi concentration camp system.

Once at the concentration camp, you will visit the most significant sites:

  • The Appellplatz (roll call square)
  • The barracks
  • The pathology department
  • The Zeilenbau (Gestapo prison)
  • The extermination centre
  • The crematorium

Meanwhile, your guide will tell you stories about the prisoners’ daily lives, the brutal punishments, the torture and the murders. You will also learn about the final days of this concentration camp and its use by the Soviets after the Second World War.

I have travelled to several places and this will definitely be one of the ones that will stay in my mind the most. The way everything is explained and the way everything is organised, makes us understand and know first hand all the horrors that have happened here. Very strong but necessary to be able to know it.
