Step by Step

The Museum Pass Berlin is a particularly attractive option if you want to spend several days exploring the city’s vast cultural offering. With a single pass, you can visit over 30 museums and spread your visits over three consecutive days.

One of the most attractive areas to use it is Museum Island, where the pass includes venues such as the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Altes Museum and the Bode Museum. Here you can move from Egyptian and classical archaeology to 19th-century painting without leaving the same complex of buildings.

Outside the Museum Island, the pass also opens the door to a wide variety of collections. You can visit the Neue Nationalgalerie to discover 20th-century art, the Gemäldegalerie to explore the works of the great European masters, or the Hamburger Bahnhof if you’re interested in contemporary art.

There are also options for those who prefer science, technology and history. The Museum für Naturkunde stands out for its natural history collections, whilst the Deutsches Technikmuseum takes you on a journey through the evolution of transport, industry and technology. These are joined by venues such as the Berlinische Galerie, the Museum für Fotografie, the Museum für Kommunikation and the Anne Frank Zentrum.

As each museum has its own opening hours and closing days, it’s best to plan in advance which venues you want to visit each day. Some museums are closed on Mondays or Tuesdays, and certain special exhibitions may require a specific time slot booking.

I liked alternating between large museums and smaller ones so we wouldn’t get overwhelmed.
