Rome Free Tour

This free tour of Rome is an enjoyable way to discover over two thousand years of history whilst walking through some of the Italian capital’s most iconic sites. Over the course of approximately two hours, the guide will help you imagine what the city was like during the Empire’s heyday and gain a better understanding of the monuments that still dominate its skyline.

During the walk, you’ll admire the Colosseum and the nearby Arch of Constantine, two inseparable symbols of imperial Rome. From there, you’ll continue to explore the area around the Roman Forum, the ancient centre of political, religious and social life, with references to sites such as the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Basilica Julia, the Curia Julia and the Mamertine Prison.

The route will also take you to the Capitoline Hill, home to the elegant Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo. From this area, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the Forum and be able to see other historic sites such as the Church of Santi Cosma e Damiano.

The tour concludes at the monumental Vittoriano, or Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, dedicated to the unification of Italy. And, as with any good free tour, you won’t pay a fixed fee in advance: at the end, you can leave the guide whatever amount you feel is appropriate based on your assessment of the experience.
