Is Washington DC bike friendly?
Washington DC is so bike friendly, that it actually earned itself a "Gold" status from the League of American Bicyclists. The status was earned based on the amount of bike lanes, cycletracks and multi-use trails, the amount of bicycle commuters and the amount of Bikeshare bikes available.
Can you ride a bike on the sidewalk in Washington DC?
DC code does state that bicyclists can use the sidewalks outside of the central business district, however right-of-way is reserved to pedestrians. All this said, it is still recommended to avoid using the sidewalk for cycling if given the choice.
Do you have to wear a bike helmet in DC?
As long as you're over 16, you do not need to wear a helmet, though it is generally recommended. You'll find most bike tours require a bike helmet, more for the sake of safety over legal necessity.
